LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) was named the Lewisburg Hotel Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday, for her contribution on the track during Bucknell's women's indoor track and field team's fifth-consecutive Patriot League Championship win this past weekend (Feb. 17-19).
At the Championships, Sawko earned a gold medal in the 1000-meter run and broke the school record in the event with a time of 2 minutes, 53.9 seconds, .05 seconds away from tying the existing Patriot League Championship record (2:53.85).
Sawko was also a member of both the winning 4x400 (3:57.06) and 4x800 (9:04.95) relay teams. The 4x800 time earned the team a spot at the ECAC Championships and a fifth-place ranking in the Bison record books.
Following the conclusion of the Championships, Sawko was given the Outstanding Track Athlete of the Meet award.
Earlier this season, Sawko qualified for the ECAC's, scheduled to take place on March 4-5, in Boston, Mass., in both the 800 and the 1000 with times of 2:12.05 and 2:57.30, respectively.
