LEWISBURG, Pa - Head coach Heather Lewis of the Bucknell field hockey program was elected executive vice president and secretary by USA Field Hockey. Lewis will begin her four-year term starting on Jan. 1, 2007.
"USA Field Hockey is very pleased that our membership has elected Heather Lewis to the office of executive vice president and secretary," said Sharon Taylor, president of USA Field Hockey. "Heather has served the sport extremely well at all levels as a player, coach, USA Field Hockey Board member and National Field Hockey Coaches Association president. It would be difficult to find a more experienced and dedicated individual for this important position on our board."
Lewis completed her 15th season as the head coach of the Bison field hockey program this past fall as she led Bucknell to its 10th appearance in the Patriot League Tournament. She has accumulated at total of 120 victories in her career, which ranks her first in school history. She also holds the record for most games coached with 272. Lewis currently holds a record of 120-152-2.
Recently, Lewis served her third consecutive two-year term as the president of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) while holding a seat on the Board of Directors for United States Field Hockey Association (USFHA). She has also served on many committees, including the NFHCA Mideast Regional All-American Committee, the USFHA Futures Committee and the NCAA Mideast Regional Committee.
"I've always viewed part of my responsibility as a coach is to contribute to a greater cause," said head coach Heather Lewis. "For me, the opportunity to serve on the Board of Directors of our national governing body is such an opportunity. I'm grateful for the membership's trust in electing me to this position for the next four years."
