LEWISBURG, Pa. - Donald Brown (Central Islip, N.Y./St. Thomas More), a senior co-captain on the Bucknell men's basketball team, has been named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week after leading the team to a strong 2-1 week.
Brown, a starting forward, had big games in both of Bucknell's victories. Last Wednesday at Saint Francis (Pa.), he had 14 points and eight rebounds in a come-from-behind 60-56 victory. Brown converted three second-half 3-point plays and scored 11 points after halftime as the Bison rallied from a 15-point deficit.
Brown was held to four points in Saturday's loss to Northern Iowa, but less than 24 hours later the Bison turned around and defeated George Mason 60-57 at the BB&T Classic in Washington, D.C., led by Brown's 16 points and game-high nine rebounds. He was a perfect 6-for-6 from the field and scored eight straight Bucknell points in a 13-2 run that helped the Bison take a 16-point lead in the opening half.
Sunday's performance landed him Juniper Networks Player of the Game accolades at the BB&T Classic, and it gave him the team scoring lead at 9.4 points per game. Brown, who also leads the team and ranks second in the Patriot League in rebounding at 6.4 rpg, is shooting 58.0 percent from the floor on the season.
Over the last four games Brown is averaging 12.5 ppg, 5.8 rpg while shooting 71.4 percent from the floor.
Bucknell has won three of its last four contests to improve to 3-5 overall. The team is now in a 13-day break for final exams and will resume its schedule on Dec. 16 at Cornell at 3:30 p.m.
