LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell's Nathan LaGrave (Okinawa, Japan/Kadena), a forward on the men's soccer squad, was named to the College Soccer News All-Freshman Third Team last week. It is the second individual honor of the postseason for LaGrave, who became the second Bison to win Patriot League Rookie of the Year honors earlier this fall.
LaGrave was the only Patriot League player honored by College Soccer News, although 2006 Bucknell opponents Sean Kelly of George Mason, Jeremy Hall of Maryland and Jonathan Villanueva and Bakary Soumare from Virginia all earned first-team plaudits.
With a team-high six goals this past season, LaGrave netted the most by a Bucknell freshman since Scott Gilroy tallied eight a decade ago. A two-time Patriot League Rookie of the Week, LaGrave led all conference freshmen in shots, points, points per game and goals during the regular season.
A starter in 19 of 23 matches, LaGrave paced the Bison in points (16) and equaled Joe Mellott for the team lead in assists with four.
LaGrave registered five of his six goals on the season at Bucknell's Varsity Soccer Field. He had a four-game stretch early in the campaign when he netted four goals and one assist, including a two-goal showing against St. Bonaventure.
LaGrave helped lead Bucknell to a 9-8-6 record and an appearance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament this past fall. The Bison graduate just one senior from the squad that won just the second NCAA Tournament match in program history.
