LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell alum Sean Conover was not only activated from the practice squad by the Tennessee Titans late last week, but the former All-Patriot Leaguer started and played the majority of the game at right defensive end in the team's stunning come-from-behind victory over the New York Giants on Sunday.
Conover, who was signed by the Titans as an undrafted free agent in May, had a solid game in his NFL debut. He made four tackles (two solo) and deflected an Eli Manning pass in the second half.
Fans who missed the game will have a chance to watch it on Wednesday night at 9 p.m. (ET), when the contest re-airs on the NFL Network. The original FOX television broadcast had another Bucknell tie, as color analyst Brian Baldinger made his debut as an analyst on Bucknell football radio broadcasts in the mid-1990s.
Conover's debut came in a memorable victory for the Titans, who trailed 21-0 in the fourth quarter before rallying to win 24-21.
He became the first Bucknell alum to play in an NFL game since running back Brian Henesey saw brief action with the Arizona Cardinals in 1994.
Conover, who played in preseason games with the Titans before being signed to the practice squad, finished his senior season at Bucknell with 44 tackles, including nine for loss and three sacks. Despite playing tight end his entire freshman season, he finished his career with 17.5 sacks, tied for fifth-most in Bucknell history. He also had nine career forced fumbles.
Conover moved to defensive end prior to his sophomore year and started all 34 games there over the last three seasons. He was a Second Team All-America selection after a junior year in which he had 10.5 sacks and 18 tackles for loss.
