LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Sean Conover, a 2006 Bucknell graduate and a former all-star defensive end on the Bison football team, was activated by the NFL's Tennessee Titans on Friday. Conover, the 2004 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, had been a member of the team's practice squad since the start of the season.
Conover's promotion came after tight end Ben Troupe was placed on injured reserve with a broken ankle.
The Titans (3-7) host the New York Giants on Sunday at 4 p.m. ET (FOX), and if Conover gets in the game he would be the first Bucknell graduate to play in the NFL since running back Brian Henesey saw brief action with the Arizona Cardinals in 1994.
Conover was signed by the Titans as an undrafted free agent on May 5. He totaled seven tackles in the team's four preseason games. In a 35-21 victory over the Green Bay Packers, Conover sacked Aaron Rogers for a 6-yard loss that forced a third-quarter punt.
Just prior to the start of the regular-season, Conover was cut by the team but re-signed to the practice squad, where he has been working out with the team all season.
Conover finished his senior season with 44 tackles, including nine for loss and three sacks. Despite playing tight end his entire freshman season, he finished his career with 17.5 sacks, tied for fifth-most in Bucknell history. He also had nine career forced fumbles.
Conover moved to defensive end prior to his sophomore year and started all 34 games there over the last three seasons. He was a Second Team All-America selection after a junior year in which he had 10.5 sacks and 18 tackles for loss.
