LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior midfielder Shannon Curd (Westtown, N.Y./Minisink Valley) was named to the ESPN The Magazine 2006 Academic All-America Women's Soccer Third Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Tuesday. Curd is the 112th Bucknell student-athlete to earn the honor, the second from the Bison women's soccer program.
Curd, who earned Academic-All District First Team recognition for the second time in her career earlier this month, joins Joanne Crane on the Bucknell women's soccer Academic All-Americans list as Crane was a second team honoree in 1994. To be considered for Academic All-America, a student-athlete must carry a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average or higher, have completed one year of coursework at his university and be a starter or significant reserve.
This year, Curd was selected to the All-Patriot League second team for the first time in her career after being named the Patriot League Tournament MVP one year ago. The two-year captain of the Orange and Blue finished 2006 with four points on one goal and two assists over 17 games as a starter, recording the deciding tally in Bucknell's 2-1 victory over Colgate, its first since 2001. Curd represented the Bison on the Patriot League All-Tournament Team as well.
Over her four-year career with the Orange and Blue, she appeared in 68 games with 49 starts, scored seven goals and tallied five assists for 19 points.
Off the field, Curd holds a 3.93 cumulative GPA as an education and psychology major. She has been a Dean's List member every semester so far at Bucknell, is a three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selection, is an Alpha Lambda Delta honor society member and also tutors at local middle and elementary schools.
In 2006, the Bison matched program bests for overall and league win totals and, with a record of 12-5-1, also posted the highest winning percentage in school history at .735. Bucknell finished the regular season at 6-1-0 and captured a share of the Patriot League regular season title.
