LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell junior midfielder Justin Wolf (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Men's Soccer First Team on Thursday. The ninth Bison men's soccer player to earn All-District honors, Wolf will now advance to the national Academic All-America ballot.
Wolf has started every game for Bucknell over the last two seasons and has started 50 of 56 career contests at his midfield position. He netted the first two goals of his career earlier this year, scoring the game-winner late in a 2-1 victory over Campbell, while it took him just 53 seconds to score against a potent Colgate defense that had yielded just one goal to that point in the season.
Tied for third on the squad with five points this year, Wolf has registered 10 points in his career after totaling five assists over his first two seasons.
A management major with a 3.52 cumulative grade-point average, Wolf is a two-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member and a four-time Dean's List selection. In recent years Wolf has volunteered his time to help remodel a local YMCA and donated funds to the YMCA as well. Last summer he served as a finance/business intern at Chief Enterprises, a dedicated supplier to the sign and screen print industries. Additionally, based on his business background and problem-solving skills, Wolf was selected to take part in the prestigious Johnson & Johnson Case Study in the spring of 2006.
The ninth Academic All-District selection for the Bucknell men's soccer program, and the sixth under eighth-year head coach Brendan Nash, Wolf will try to join Greg Beatty, Ryan Weber and Jonathan Hemmert as the only Bison men's soccer players to earn Academic All-America honors.
In order to be eligible for Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.20 GPA and be a starter or key reserve on his/her team.
Bucknell has had 111 Academic All-Americans since 1970, fourth-most in the nation among Division I programs, behind only Nebraska, Notre Dame and Penn State.
Wolf and the rest of the Bucknell men's soccer team will be in action this weekend at the Patriot League Tournament. The fourth-seeded Bison, who were 8-7-4 during the regular season, will take on top-seeded Lehigh at 7:30 p.m. Friday evening in Bethlehem, Pa.
