LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell junior Hope Foster (Washington, D.C./Dunbar) was named the Patriot League Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday after an impressive start to her season this past weekend. The 6-2 forward averaged team-highs in points (19.5), rebounds (11.5) and blocks (6.5) as the Bison split their first two contests of the 2006-07 campaign.
Foster just missed a rare triple-double as she tallied 20 points, 16 rebounds and a school-record eight blocked shots as she led Bucknell to an 85-77 victory over Hampton in the season opener last Friday. Foster followed that performance with a game-high 19 points and seven rebounds Sunday as the Bison narrowly fell to Saint Joseph's 63-56.
The third-leading scorer in the Patriot League, Foster extended her already impressive school blocked shots record as she now has 180 rejections in her 59-game career. Second place on Bucknell's career list is Marie Kocornik, who wrapped up her career with 132 blocks. Foster's eight blocks surpassed the old single-game record, which she had achieved twice in a 16-day span last December. Ann Kirwin is the only other Bucknell player ever to block as many as seven shots in a contest. Foster has 12 games in her career with at least five blocks.
A member of the Preseason All-Patriot League Team, Foster is shooting an impressive 62.5 percent from the field this year to pace the squad. She made 6 of 10 field goals against Hampton and 9 of 14 opposite Saint Joseph's.
Senior guard Lindsey Hollobaugh (Loganton, Pa./Central Mountain) was named to the Patriot League's honorable mention list after averaging 18.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game last week.
Foster, Hollobaugh and the rest of their teammates will continue their three-game road trip Tuesday night when they play Columbia at 6 p.m. in New York, N.Y.
