CLAREMONT, Calif. - Jason Rechel (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) led a balanced Bucknell attack with four goals as 10 different Bison scored in a 16-7 water polo win over Cal Lutheran Saturday at the Claremont Convergence. Bucknell improved to 3-0 at the two-day event.
Rechel, who is second on the team with 30 goals this season, tallied four for the second straight contest. He also added an assist to give him 10 points in the last two games. Mark Masterson (Kihei, Hawaii/Marin) tied Rechel for team-high honors in points with three goals and two assists. He now has 53 points on the season and is just 10 goals shy of equaling his career high of 48, set last year.
Seven other Bucknell players registered one goal apiece, while Gabriel Heiber (Aventura, Fla./Miami Beach) found the back of the net twice.
The Bison jumped out to an early lead as they tallied five goals in the first quarter and four more in the second en route to a 9-3 halftime advantage over the Kingsmen, who are ranked fourth in the nation in the CWPA Division III poll.
Luke Belenky (Kensington, Md./German School) and Nick Donahue (Brooklyn, N.Y./Lawrenceville Prep) split time in goal for Bucknell, which improved to 10-6 with its third win in a row. Belenky made two saves and yielded six goals as he played the first three quarters. Donahue registered a career-high four saves while playing just the final period.
The Bison, who are ranked 17th nationally and have won 10 games for 10 consecutive seasons, are just four wins shy of matching last year's total.
