EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette's Scott Hawkins scored the lone goal of the game with 27 seconds remaining to hand the Bucknell men's soccer team just its second loss in its last 11 games, 1-0, Saturday night at Mike Bourger Field at Oaks Stadium.
Both teams had multiple scoring opportunities in the first half, but neither was able to score. Bucknell's best chance came when Nathan LaGrave (Okinawa, Japan/Kadena) was on a breakaway, but a Leopard defender made a slide tackle on him before he could launch a shot.
Joey Kuterbach (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) continued his streak of not allowing more than one goal in a game this season as he made five saves. The junior now has 56 saves this season.
Lafayette outshot Bucknell 11-5, including tallying the final six shots of the contest.
Before Hawkins netted the game-winning score, the Leopards had placed two shots into the box in the final minute that were turned away by the tough Bison defense.
Bucknell, which fell into a tie with Lafayette in the Patriot League standings with a 2-1-1 record, is now 7-3-3. The Leopards are 7-2-1 overall.
The Bison step out of conference play Tuesday night with a match against NJIT at 7 p.m. on Varsity Soccer Field. The contest will be broadcast on www.SportsJuice.com, which can be accessed through the front page of www.BucknellBison.com.
