EASTON, Pa. - Junior Krista Lee Gentile (North Haledon, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) scored her third game-winning goal of the season as the Bucknell women's soccer team shut out Lafayette, 2-0, in Patriot League action on Friday evening. The victory was the seventh consecutive for the Bison as the squad improved to 8-3-1 on the season (2-0-0, PL), while the Leopards slid to 3-7-1, 0-2-0 in league contests.
After the teams played a scoreless first half, Gentile broke the 0-0 deadlock for the Orange and Blue with her sixth tally of the year as she drove the ball into the upper right corner of the net off a feed from sophomore Jennifer Dervarics (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) at 54:15. Dervarics went on to notch the Bison's second goal, her seventh of the season on a penalty kick in the 79th minute.
Bucknell out-shot Lafayette, 8-7, and led in corner kicks, 9-5. Mary Kate Erdman made four saves in net for the Leopards and Bison senior goalkeeper Katie Dry (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) stopped two shots and picked up her eighth career shutout. Fouls were 13-8, against Lafayette.
The Orange and Blue will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 8, when the team will play a Patriot League match against Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa., at 1 p.m.
