Bison Men's And Women's Tennis Complete Day One of Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa - The Bucknell men's and women's tennis teams hosted the first day of competition for the Bucknell Invitational Friday at the Bucknell Tennis Courts. Junior Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day-Upper) dropped Andrew Chan of Quinnipiac, 6-2, 6-2, in Flight one singles to lead the men, while freshman Tania Varela (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy) extended her singles winning streak to seven victories as she defeated Quinnipiac's Gabby Pasternak, 6-2, 6-2 in Flight one singles on the women's side.
Sophomore Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) took down Dave Jackson of UMBC in straight sets, 7-6(7), 6-4, in the Flight two singles, while fellow sophomore teammate Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) stifled Connecticut's Joe Goldstein, 6-4, 6-1, in Flight three singles
In the women's Flight six singles, sophomore JoAnna Grossman (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park) dropped Shawna Sarson of Quinnipiac, 6-1, 6-1, while sophomore Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates) fell to Connecticut's Jess Porter in a three-set tiebreaker, 2-6, 6-2 (9-11).
The Bucknell men's and women's tennis teams will be back in action for day two of the Bucknell Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 9 a.m., with the second round of singles play and the first and second rounds of doubles action.
