LEWISBURG, Pa. - After moving up to its highest ever ranking at No. 8 in the Soccer Buzz Mid-Atlantic regional poll this Monday, the Bucknell women's soccer team earned a spot in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Mid-Atlantic regional poll for the first time in program history, making its debut at No. 10, the NSCAA announced on Tuesday.
In its only game last week, the Orange and Blue posted a 2-1 victory over Navy, handing the Mids, who are fifth in the region, their first loss of the season (19-1-0), to improve to 12-4-1 overall and 11-1-0 over the last 12 contests.
The win also gave the Bison a 6-1-0 record in Patriot League play and a share of the PL regular season title as Navy finished at 6-1-0 in the league as well. By virtue of the head-to-head tiebreaker, Bucknell earned the right to be the No. 1 seed in the Patriot League Tournament, which it will play host to this Friday and Sunday, Nov. 3 and 5.
In addition, this last victory was historically significant for the Orange and Blue. Twelve wins overall and six league wins tie program single season highs as the Bison previously posted twelve victories in 1994 (12-6-1) and in 2001 (12-7-0). Bucknell went 6-0-0 in league play during 1995, the only other time it has played host to the PL tournament.
The Bison next face No.-4 seed Colgate in a Patriot League semifinal match that is slated for Friday, Nov. 3, at 7:15 p.m. on Varsity Soccer Field.
