LEWISBURG, Pa. - With its victory over nationally-ranked Navy, last Sunday, the Bucknell women's soccer team won a share of the Patriot League regular season title and earned the right to play host to the league tournament, which will take place this Friday and Sunday, Nov. 3 and 5, on Varsity Soccer Field.
In Friday's seminfinal action, No. 2-seed Navy will take on No. 3 Lehigh in the first contest of the day at 4:30 p.m. Later that evening, the Bison, who have tied program-highs for overall wins and Patriot League wins this season with a record of 12-4-1, 6-1-0 in the PL, will be the No. 1 seed and will face No. 4 Colgate in the 7:15 p.m. match.
The winners of both contests will advance to the championship game, which is slated for Sunday, Nov. 5, at 1 p.m. Bucknell will be in search of its second straight title as the squad became the first No. 4 seed to win the Patriot League championship one year ago, advancing past Lehigh on penalty kicks in the semifinal and defeating Army, 3-1, in the final. The team capturing the Patriot League championship will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Women's College Cup, of which the Bison have been participants both in 2001 and in 2005.
This weekend marks the second time in history that the Women's Soccer Patriot League Tournament will be played in Lewisburg as Bucknell was the host in 1995 after going undefeated in its league games at 6-0-0.
There will be no admission charged for any of the tournament matches. Newly-completed seating areas on the East side of Varsity Soccer Field will be open to spectators, while additional seating will be available on the hill behind the North goal.
