Bucknell Swimming and Diving Opens 2006-07 Season This Weekend at Holy Cross and Boston College

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell swimming and diving squads will begin their 2006-07 seasons this weekend when the teams travel to Worcester, Mass., to take on Holy Cross on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 1 p.m., and will face Boston College on Sunday, Oct. 29, in Chestnut Hill, Mass., beginning at noon.
With three first-place votes, the Bison women were selected third in the Patriot League preseason poll, finishing just three points behind Navy in first with 87 and one point behind second-place Colgate, as the Raiders collected 84 points. Army followed the Orange and Blue with 54 points, while Lafayette, Lehigh, American and Holy Cross rounded out the women's poll.
For the men, the Bison finished third to Navy (98 points) and Army (81 points) in the Patriot League preseason poll, taking third with 75 points. Lehigh followed with in fourth with 59 and American, Colgate, Lafayette and Holy Cross all came in behind Bucknell with totals of 48, 39, 34 and 14 points, respectively.
On the women's side, Bucknell returns nine of its 12 all-league performers from the 2006 Patriot League championship squad, including junior Meghan Brown (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area), senior Carlyn Donley (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic), senior Laura Goeller (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill School), junior Katalin Lyons (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional), senior Katherine Munson (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield), senior Rebecca Scheffter (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore), sophomore Nikki Seaman (Cleveland, Ohio/The Hawken School), sophomore Ally St. Claire (Silver Spring, Md./Edmund Burke) and senior Nikki Woodward (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow).
The Bison men feature a squad with just two seniors and return two All-Patriot League performers from the 2005-06 team that finished third at the league championships. Sophomore Mark Kawczenski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Hanover Area) and junior Joseph Metcalf (Knoxville, Tenn./Philips Exeter Academy) both garnered all-league recognition as the duo combined to score 70 of the squad's 623 points at the league meet last season.
Both Bucknell teams will begin the home portions of their 2006-07 schedules on Saturday, Nov. 4, when the Bison will play host to the Bucknell Sprint Invitational, beginning at noon.
