LEWISBURG, Pa. - After picking up its eighth win in the last nine games this past Saturday, the Bucknell women's soccer team has earned its first ranking in program history, making its debut at No. 14 in the Soccer Buzz Mid-Atlantic regional poll, which was released on Monday. In the previous week's poll, which consists of the top-15 teams in the 47-team region, the Bison had received votes for the first time since 2001.
With a 3-1 victory over American at home last weekend, Bucknell improved to 9-4-1 on the season, 3-1 in the Patriot League and remained undefeated on Varsity Soccer field at 4-0 in 2006. The win also secured a .500 or better record for the Bison for the second consecutive year.
The team's current total of nine victories is also the fourth-most in the 16-year history of Bucknell women's soccer. Last season's Patriot League championship Bison squad came within one win of tying the program record of 12 wins, set in 1994 and in 2001.
Sophomore Jennifer Dervarics (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) and junior Krista Lee Gentile (North Haledon, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) lead the Orange and Blue in scoring with 17 points apiece as both have tallied seven goals and three assists on the year. Gentile has notched four game-winning goals over nine matches, which leads the Patriot League.
Dervarics, Gentile and the rest of the Bison will look to continue the team's success this weekend, Oct. 20 and 22, when Bucknell will play host to Patriot League foes Army on Friday at 7 p.m., and Holy Cross on Sunday at 1 p.m., on Varsity Soccer Field.
