LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's soccer team improved to 4-0 at home on Varsity Soccer Field this season with a 3-1 win over American on Saturday afternoon. The victory moved the Bison to 9-4-1 overall and 3-1 in the Patriot League, while the Eagles dropped to 8-5-1, with a 2-2 record in league play.
The Orange and Blue struck early as senior Jennifer Margolis (Englishtown, N.J./Manalapan) punched in a cross from junior Krista Lee Gentile (North Haledon, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) to put Bucknell in front, 1-0, in the second minute. The tally was the fourth of the season for Margolis and the fifth of her career in four games against American.
Gentile moved the score to 2-0 at 35:53, when she collected the rebound off a shot by freshman Chelsea McGorry (Charlton, Mass./Shepherd Hill Regional) and deposited it into the back of the net for her team-leading seventh goal of the year.
Freshman Molly Linhart (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel Area) then notched the third and final Bison tally in the 40th minute as McGorry sent a feed past Eagles' goalkeeper Alison Doyle to Linhart, who sent the ball home.
Katelynn Donovan scored the lone goal for American at 82:04 on a shot from the far left side that found its way into the top right corner of the net. Lindsey Miller was credited with the assist.
Bucknell outshot the Eagles, 10-9, while corner kicks were even at three apiece. Senior goalkeeper Katie Dry (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) recorded five saves for the Bison and Doyle stopped five shots for American. Fouls were 14-13 against the Orange and Blue.
Bucknell will close out its home portion of the regular season schedule next weekend, Oct. 20 and 22, when the team will take on Army on Friday at 7 p.m. and Holy Cross on Sunday at 1 p.m.
