LEWISBURG, Pa. - Juniors Tyler Hoffman (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) and Marjorie Grap (Van Etten/Spencer-Van Etten), of the Bucknell track and field team, each receive Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week honors for their performances in the weight throw during the week of Jan. 23-29, the league office announced on Tuesday. This is Hoffman's second consecutive honor, while Grap pulls in her third honor of the season, keeping the Bison undefeated in the female category.
Hoffman, of the men's team, threw for 58 feet, 1/2 inches at the Penn State National Invite, on Saturday, Jan. 28, where he earned a sixth-place finish. At the Invite, Hoffman competed against throwers from Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Penn State and Army. The previous week, he marked a heave of 58-4 in the event, which placed him as the third-best thrower in the Bucknell records.
Grap, on the women's side, competed in two meets over the weekend. On Friday, Jan. 27, she threw the 20-pound weight at the PSU Invite and placed fourth with a mark of 61-1 1/2, setting both a personal and school record. However, the record did not stand long as she launched the weight 62-6 1/2, at the Bison Open on Saturday, Jan. 28, shattering her old records and also setting a new Gerhard Fieldhouse record, while winning the event. She also took second in the shot-put with a toss of 43-5 1/4 at the Open.
The only other athlete to receive the Patriot League's Female Field Athlete of the Week honor this season, was Bucknell's outstanding pole vaulter, junior Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa./Butler).
The Orange and Blue will return to battle on Saturday, Feb. 4, in Akron, Ohio, at the Akron Open.
