LEWISBURG, Pa. - Both of Bucknell's men's and women's track and field teams won the Bucknell "Heptagonal" on Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Gerhard Fieldhouse in Lewisburg, Pa. Junior Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa./Butler Area) on the women's side, set a new Fieldhouse record with a leap of 13 feet, 3 1/2 inches, while other athletes qualified for the ECAC/IC4A Championships for the Orange and Blue. Other schools competing at the meet were Saint Francis (Pa.), Duquesne, Lock Haven, East Stroudsburg, Wagner and the women's team from Towson.
Winning the pole vault, Buczko also hit the NCAA provisional mark.
Junior Marjorie Grap (Van Etten/Spencer-Van Etten), who qualified for the ECAC Championships early in the season, once again broke her own school record in the weight throw with a heave of 59-3 1/2.
Junior Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) won the 1000-meter run with a time of 2 minutes 57.30 seconds and qualified for the ECAC's and also went home victorious in the 400 (59.72). Junior Lauren Bricker (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) finished second in the 1000 (2:58.40), while freshman Megan Hathaway (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagra Wheatfield) took the number two spot in the 400 (59.78).
Setting a new personal record in the 55 was senior Danielle Todman (Plainfield, N.J./Bishop George Ahr), with a time of 7.38, good enough for third place overall and seventh in the Bison record books. Todman also excelled in the 55-hurdles with a time of 8.38, second overall and third in the school records.
Junior Catherine Trentacoste (Carden City, N.Y./Garden City) won the 55 hurdles with a personal record time of 8:37 and became the Bison's second-best all-time athlete in the event.
Winning the 800 was sophomore Offeibea Hanson-Hall (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle), with a time of 2:22.09, while junior Kat Allen (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga) ran a season-best mark of 1:19.08 in the 500 (first overall), with junior Mariel Fink (Pennington, N.J./Hun School of Princeton) finishing right on Allen's heals, in second place, with a time of 1:19.96.
Junior Nina Reinhardt (Northport, N.Y./Northport) won the long jump and placed sixth in the school's record books with a leap of 18-4 1/2, while Bricker won the triple jump (37-9 1/2), with junior Anne Doty (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) placing second (37-8 3/4).
The 4x400 relay team, comprised of Trentacoste, Allen, Hathaway and Sawko, won the event (4:00.29), while the 4x800 team of sophomore Erin Cranmer-Hart (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock), Hanson-Hall, freshman Ashley Behre (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive) and senior Jen O'Connor (Langhorne, Pa./Nazareth Academy) took second (9:38.95).
Also scoring in events for the Orange and Blue was junior Jenny Stevens (Laceyville, Pa./Wyalusing Valley), taking second in the mile (5:03.80), number eight in Bucknell's records, and Cranmer-Hart, who took third in the mile and placed 10th in the all-time books, with a mark of 5:06.02. Junior Christy Totten (Perkasie, Pa./Perkasie) took second in the 5000 (18:17.48), while junior Chessa Forer (New York, N.Y./Deerfield Acad.) took second in the 200 (26.29).
Junior Angie Hall (Elkton, Md./Rising Sun) finished behind Buczko in the pole vault with a height of 10-4, while junior Ashley Curry (Lewiston, Pa./Lewiston Area) marked the same height, but finished third.
"Our women's team really showed our depth and strength in all the events," said head coach Kevin Donner, "we are getting closer to where we need to be to prepare for the Patriot League Championships."
The women finished the meet with 267.5 points, almost 200 hundred points above the second-place finisher, Saint Francis.
On the men's side, sophomore Wallace Campbell (Montgomery, Ala./Montgomery Acad.) won the mile run with a time of 4:14.16 and qualified for the IC4A Championships, while senior K.C. Brown (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) finished in a close second with a mark of 4:16.23.
Junior Tyler Hoffman (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg), who qualified for the IC4A's earlier in the season, continued to improve in the weight throw with a heave of 58-4, bumping him up to the Bison's all-time third best in the event, while sophomore James Meyer (Pac. Palisades, Calif./Pac. Palisades) placed second and captured the ninth-best slot in Bucknell's record books (51-3 1/2).
Freshman Kerry Boyle (Hazelton, Pa./Hazleton) was victorious in the 500 with a time of 1:05.41, just missing a qualifying spot at the IC4A meet by .16 seconds.

Junior Matt Bonelli (Califon, N.J./Pingry School) took second in the 400 (51:67), while sophomore Andrew Corral (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) also finished in the runner-up spot in the 5000 (15:11.81). Junior Matt Forys (Howell, N.J./Howell) took second in the 3000 and marked a personal-best (8:35.77), as junior Mark Caroleo (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) also set a personal record in the 1000 (2:31.88) and as finisher number two.
Senior Matt Corbetta (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester) took third in the 200 (22.90), while junior Adam Syty (East Amherst, N.Y./Clarence) also finished third in the 800 (1:58.03). In the long jump, Thomas Bennett turned in a 42-08.75 mark, good enough to also end up with a third-place finish.
The 4x400 relay team, consisting of sophomores Brian Mooney (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) and James Redmond (Medfod, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep.), along with Syty and Caroleo, placed second with a time of 7:56.22.
"Our men really stepped up big today to win the meet in a decisive manner," said Donner, "I was very pleased with the result. We are so much better than we were a year ago."
The men collected 174 points, with Saint Francis being the closest with 99.
The Orange and Blue will split up next weekend as half the squad will travel to the Penn State National Invite in University Park, Pa., while the remaining half will stay in Lewisburg, Pa. and battle at the Bison Open. Both meets are schedule to begin on Friday, Jan. 27 and end on Saturday, Jan. 28.
