Bucknell Women's Swimming and Diving Suffers 167-133 Setback to Columbia

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's swimming and diving squad suffered a 167-133 setback to Columbia in Kinney Natatorium on Saturday afternoon. In the team's first home meet in nearly two months, the Bison set two new program top-10 marks. Sophomore Brittany Neligan (Hempstead, N.Y.) broke into the Bucknell record book with her third-place time of 17:32.44 in the 1650 free, good for seventh all-time in program history, and the 400-yard freestyle relay team of sophomore Kristen Skroski (North Haven, Conn./Hopkins), freshman Susan Horstmann (Havertown, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara), freshman Alexandra Lovallo (Ridgefield, Conn.) and junior Rebecca Scheffter (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) won the event in 3:35.38, the ninth-best time in Bison history.
Senior Lectie Altman (Syracuse, N.Y./William Nottingham) was Bucknell's lone double-winner on the afternoon as she took first in the 100 back with a time of 58.76 and in the 200 back with a time of 2:03.90. Senior Mary Krakowski (Erie, Pa./McDowell), junior Laura Goeller (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill School) and Scheffter were all individual winners for the Bison as well.
Krakowski took first in the 100 fly with a team season-best time of 58.39 and finished third in the 50 free in 24.81. Goeller took first in the 500 free with a time of 5:10.61. Scheffter captured the top spot in the 100 free with a time of 52.80, Bucknell's best time in the event so far this season, and was the runner-up in the 50 free with a time of 24.75.
Junior Nikki Woodward (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) and Skroski each collected a pair of second-place finishes as Woodward was the runner-up in the 200 breast (2:28.10) and in the 200 IM (2:13.36) and Skroski finished second in the 200 free (1:55.87) and in the 500 free (5:11.71).
Junior Katherine Munson (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) was second in the 200 fly with a team season-best time of 2:06.90 and took third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.44, to round out the top finishers for the Orange and Blue.
The Bison will next compete on Friday, Jan. 27, as the team will close out its 2005-06 home schedule with a dual meet against Delaware beginning at 6 p.m. in Kinney Natatorium.
