Bucknell Women's Basketball Wins Sixth Straight Road Game, 58-45, Over Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lindsey Hollobaugh (Loganton, Pa./Central Mountain), who passed the 1,000-point mark in her career in the first half, scored 14 of her team-high 16 points in the second half as Bucknell held off Lehigh in women's basketball for its sixth consecutive road victory Wednesday evening at Stabler Arena, 58-45.
The Bison, who held their fourth opponent of the season to less than 50 points, improved to 9-7 overall and 3-1 in the Patriot League and moved into a first-place tie with Army atop the standings. The Mountain Hawks fell to 7-10 overall and 2-2 in league play.
Bucknell made seven of its first eight field goal attempts on its way to a 16-9 lead in the fast-paced opening minutes of the game. Hope Foster (Washington, D.C./Dunbar) scored eight of her 10 points in the first six minutes of play as the Bison built the seven-point cushion.
Lehigh closed to within 16-13 with more than 11 minutes to play in the half, but tallied just three points in the next 10 minutes as Bucknell built an 11-point spread at 27-16. Adrienne Blount, who led Lehigh with 18 points on 9 of 18 shooting, then scored on three straight possessions in the final 1:20 to bring the Mountain Hawks to within 27-22 at halftime.
Bucknell kept at least a five-point cushion throughout the second half as Lehigh drew to within 42-37 following a 3-pointer by Emily Geosits with just less than seven minutes to play. The final 13-point spread was the largest of the game.
The key to the game was Bucknell's defense, which limited its third opponent in the last four games to less than 30 percent shooting from the field. The Mountain Hawks made just 27.0 percent of their field goals. Hollobaugh and Kesha Champion (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River) held Sara Ellis, who entered the game averaging nearly 17 points per game, to just five points on 1 of 10 shooting.
Foster contributed to the defensive effort by blocking three shots to vault her into first place on the Bison career list with 134.
Lauren Schober (Chicago, Ill./Regina Dominican) rounded out the trio of Bucknell players in double figures with 14 points on 6 of 10 shooting. The Bison shot better than 40 percent as a team.
Jenny Callan posted a double-double with 13 points and 17 rebounds for Lehigh, which outrebounded Bucknell 48-33. Foster led the Bison with eight rebounds.
Bucknell turned the ball over just five times in the game and just once in the second half.
The Bison, who have won a program-record six straight road games, and seven in a row away from Sojka Pavilion, return home to begin a four-game homestand Saturday at 4 p.m. against Colgate.
