Bucknell Men's Swimming and Diving Cruises to 200.5-94.5 Win Over Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Bucknell men's swimming and diving team rolled to a 200.5-94.5 victory over Colgate in Patriot League action on Tuesday afternoon. The Bison dominated the Raiders, winning 12 individual events and one relay, and posted one-two-three sweeps in six events.
Senior Todd Bauer (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area), senior Mark Kretzer (Northport, N.Y./Harborfields) and sophomore Grant Steadman (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) were all double-winners for Bucknell. Bauer took first in the 1000 and 500-yard freestyle events with times of 10:04.83 and 4:46.42, respectively. Kretzer claimed the top spot in the 100 back (53.09) and in the 100 fly (52.00), while Steadman won the 50 free in 21.83 and the 100 free with a first-place time of 47.72.
Sophomore John Peterman (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor) captured first in the 200 free with a time of 1:46.77 and finished second in the 50 free and the 100 free, behind Steadman. He swam the 50 free in 22.02 and the 100 free in 49.15.
Senior William Schilling (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) recorded a time of 59.88 in the 100 breast to tie Colgate's Marc Falkner for first in the event and went on to post a runner-up showing in the 200 breast with a time of 2:09.12.
Junior Matt Crandell (Winchester, Va./John Handley) and freshman Nicholas Hanes (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) rounded out the individual winners in the swimming events for the Bison. Crandell took first in the 200 fly with a time of 1:56.72, while Hanes came away with the top time in the 200 back (1:57.36). The duo earned a pair third place finishes on the afternoon, as well, Crandell in the 100 fly with a time of 52.81 and Hanes in the 100 back with a time of 54.67.
On the boards for the Orange and Blue, current Patriot League Male Diver of the Week senior Adam Freeman (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) won the one-meter event with a score of 293.85 and finished as the runner-up to classmate Jake Thompson (Freeport, N.Y./Chaminade) in the three-meter. Thompson won the three-meter event with 262.50 points, while Freeman posted a mark of 260.18.
The 200 medley relay squad of Mark Kawczenski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Hanover Area), sophomore Bradford Bennett (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area), Kretzer and Steadman was also victorious for the Bison, with a winning time of 1:34.78.
Bucknell returns to action on Saturday, January 21, when the team will play host to Columbia, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
