LEWISBURG, Pa. - Adam Edwards, a senior goalkeeper on the Bucknell men's soccer team, copped Lewisburg Hotel Bison Athlete of the Week honors Monday after a pair of splendid showings over the weekend as the Bison split a pair of matches at the season-opening James Madison Invitational.
In the season opener, a 1-0 shutout victory over 18th-ranked James Madison Friday, Edwards made just three saves, but recorded his 19th career shutout to tie him with Mark Wrigley for second place on Bucknell's career list. The shutout was the first for Edwards since the last time the Bison upset a nationally ranked foe when they defeated second-ranked Maryland in 2003.
The Downingtown, Pa., native could not lead Bucknell to victory in its final game at the James Madison Invitational, but was just as impressive. Despite a 3-0 loss to Towson, Edwards, who has 224 career saves, stopped a career-high 14 shots. The previous highest figure of his career was nine against Lehigh in the 2003 Patriot League Tournament.
Edwards and the Bison will head south again this coming weekend to participate in another tournament, this one hosted by Loyola (Md.). They will face the host Greyhounds Friday, Sept. 9, at 5 p.m. and then battle Richmond Sunday, Sept. 11, at 1 p.m.
