LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell field hockey team will look to upset the No. 4 ranked team in the nation, Patriot League foe American, this Saturday at noon, at Graham Field. The Bison currently have a record of 3-6, and are looking to snap a two-game losing streak and win their opening conference match-up of the 2005 season.
Bucknell will depend on its upperclassmen to set the tone during this weekend's match-up. Junior 2004 All-Patriot League selection, Alex Kyzmir, has nearly one-fourth of the Bison's goals and currently sits on top of the Blue and Orange's statistical leaders with five scores and six assists for 16 total points. Senior co-captain Kelly O'Brien is second with four goals and two assists (10 points), while junior 2003 All-Patriot League honoree Callista Costopoulos has three goals (six points). Senior defender Carli Cataldo is one of the strongest defenders on the squad and has one recorded defensive save.
Senior goalkeeper and co-captain Liz Jordan has been tough between the posts with 86 saves, 22 goals allowed, for a save percentage of .796. Against Vermont (L, 2-1 (OT)) and Lock Haven (L, 2-1), Jordan's diving efforts kept Bucknell within a goal of each opponent. Jordan is a two-time All-Patriot League selection.
A fresh face for the Bison, newcomer Amanda Faust has already made an impact for the Blue and Orange as she has two goals on the season, four assists (eight points) and four defensive saves.
American already has seven Patriot League Player of the Week selections for this 2005 season and has dominated in all eight games of play, with a current record of 8-0.
Bucknell hopes to upset the nationally ranked team on its home turf on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005 at 12 p.m. at Graham Field. This weekend also serves as Homecoming Weekend for the Bison.
