LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's soccer team took two of the three Patriot League weekly awards Tuesday when senior goalkeeper Adam Edwards (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown) earned Defensive Player of the Week plaudits for the second time this season and freshman midfielder Mark Schmiegel (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) was named Rookie of the Week.
Edwards, who leads the Patriot League with 38 saves, recorded his fifth shutout of the season, and the 23rd of his career, during a 2-0 home victory over Holy Cross last Saturday. The shutout vaulted him into second place on the Patriot League career list and moved him within one shutout of tying Ted Peterson for the Bison career standard.

The Downingtown, Pa., native opened the week by allowing just one goal against NJIT as Bucknell tied the Highlanders 1-1 on a last-second goal by Tim Faneck (Shavertown, Pa./Dallas). Edwards made six saves in the contest. He followed that with four against the Crusaders.
Edwards currently stands sixth on the Patriot League career saves list with 245, and has lowered his career goals-against average to 0.98. His 0.74 goals-against average this year is second in the Patriot League.
Schmiegel, who is one of eight Bison to start all eight games this season, netted his first career goal to give Bucknell a 2-0 lead against Holy Cross in his first career Patriot League contest.
The Toms River, N.J., native, who recorded an assist against St. Peter's on Sept. 17, is tied with senior captains Eric Brunton (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) and Faneck for second on the Bison in points with three.
Bucknell, which is 4-2-2 overall and 1-0-0 in the Patriot League, concludes its two-game homestand Wednesday night against Binghamton at 7 p.m. at Varsity Soccer Field. Doug Birdsong, the play-by-play voice of the Bison Sports Network, will call all the action live on WVBU 90.5 in the Lewisburg area, and on the internet at www.SportsJuice.com.
