LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell men's soccer senior goalkeeper Adam Edwards added another award to his resume when he was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday. He posted two shutouts over the weekend as the Bison won both their games at the Loyola Classic.
The PL Defensive Player of the Week honor is just the second of Edwards' illustrious career that saw him win the 2002 Patriot League Rookie of the Year.
Edwards made four saves Friday night against host Loyola as Bucknell won 1-0. He made another four saves Sunday afternoon in another 1-0 victory over Richmond. Edwards leads the Patriot League with 25 saves and now has 232 in his career, which is tied with Army's Kevin Larrabee for sixth on the Patriot League career list.
The Downingtown, Pa., native has a Patriot League-high three shutouts this year, and now has 21 in his career. He stands second on Bucknell's career list, and is in third place on the Patriot League all-time list, just five shy of tying Lehigh's Ryan Grzeszczak for the top spot.
Having played every minute of Bucknell's first four games this season, Edwards has allowed just three goals and has a 0.75 goals-against average. He allowed all three goals in one game, a 3-0 loss to Towson, but made 14 saves in that contest.
Bucknell, which is 3-1-0, opens its home season Wednesday night at 7 p.m. against La Salle. It is the first game on the new Varsity Soccer Field at West Fields for the Bison.
