LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's soccer team posted a pair of victories to tie Towson for the best record at the Loyola Classic over the weekend. Helping the Bison to the two 1-0 victories were Corey Curnutte, Tim Faneck and Andrew Loia, who were all named to the All-Tournament Team.
Loia netted the game-winning goal with three minutes remaining in Bucknell's victory over host Loyola Friday, his second game-winner this season. The junior from Baldwinsville, N.Y., has two goals this season, and four in his career.
Curnutte, a sophomore Waterford, Mich., native, and Faneck, a Shavertown, Pa., native, did not score any goals, but each played solidly throughout the weekend.
Bucknell opened the weekend with a 1-0 win over host Loyola, and followed that with a 1-0 victory over Richmond Sunday during which Eric Brunton tallied the lone goal. Bucknell and Towson finished with matching 2-0 records for the weekend, but the Tigers won the second tiebreaker by scoring more goals in their two wins.
Senior goalkeeper Adam Edwards posted his second and third shutouts of the season. He was nominated for most valuable player honors, but Towson's Sebastian Haensel, who tallied one goal and one assist in leading the Tigers to a 2-0 record, edged him out. Since he was in the running for MVP, Edwards was left off the All-Tournament Team.
The Bison open the home portion of their schedule Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. against La Salle. It will be their first match on their brand new soccer field at West Fields.
