LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell seniors Sean Conover (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) and Stephen Watts (LaGrange, Ga./Troup) have been voted by their teammates as co-captains of the football team for the 2005 season. Starters on the defensive and offensive lines, respectively, Conover and Watts assume the captaincy this week as the Bison open the season Saturday night against Patriot League rival Georgetown at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
Conover is the team's most highly decorated player as the season begins. In 2004 he was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year and was a Second Team All-America pick by The Sports Network and the Associated Press. This summer he was named Patriot League Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, and The Sports Network placed him on its Buck Buchanan Award Watch List (I-AA defensive player of the year) and its Preseason All-America team.

Entering his third year as a starting defensive end, Conover tied for the Patriot League lead with 10.5 sacks a year ago, and he also led the conference in forced fumbles with five. He finished with 55 tackles, 18 of which came behind the line of scrimmage.
Watts is also in his third season as a starter on the offensive line. He has played both center and tackle in recent years, and on Saturday against Georgetown he is expected to line up at left tackle. The leader of the offensive line, Watts enters 2005 with 20 career starts, second-most of any Bucknell offensive player and most of any lineman.
The Bison are looking to extend a four-game winning streak that ended the 2004 campaign. Buoyed by that late surge, Bucknell finished 7-4 last season, its first seven win season since 1999.
Kickoff for Saturday's Georgetown game is 6 p.m.
