PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Bucknell field hockey team fell 3-0 at the hands of the Drexel Dragons, in its first away game of the season late Tuesday afternoon at Buckley Field. The loss to Drexel hands the Bison their second loss in two games played.
Bucknell was outshot 11-4 in the first half and 12-2 in the second. The orange and blue offense was unable to spark as junior Callista Costopoulos was the only Bison who got off more than one shot as she attempted to score three times.
The Dragons quickly found the back of the net and scored the first goal of the game just under 10 minutes into the contest. The second goal came towards the end of the first half, with just 10 seconds remaining. Drexel's third goal came mid-way through the second half at the 49:00 mark.
Bucknell goalkeeper Liz Jordan allowed three goals on the day and recorded 10 saves against a strong Drexel offense. Junior goalkeeper Emily Groendyke saw her first bit of action this season as she stepped into the Bison goal with 14 minutes left in the game. Groendyke made three saves and did not allow any goals through.
Bucknell will look to capture its first victory of the season when it travels to Villanova on Friday, Sept. 2, to battle the Wildcats. The game is set to start at 7 p.m.
