LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell freshman forward Jacquie Kataneksza will be representing Zimbabwe on the Under-21 team at the fifth Field Hockey Junior World Cup Championships scheduled to take place in Santiago, Chile, Sept. 14-25. The 18-member team, coached by Kumbirai Mundangepfupfu, was announced earlier this summer.
Kataneksza is the first Bucknell field hockey player to compete internationally since 1978. The forward has represented Zimbabwe in both U-18 and U-21 matches and was a member of the U-21 squad that competed in the 2004 Junior African Cup of Nations.
Zimbabwe won their ticket to the Junior World Cup after finishing as runners-up to hosts South Africa in the African Cup.
Zimbabwe is in Pool A, which includes England, The Netherlands and the United States. South Africa, who is the only other African country at the Cup, is in Group B with Germany, India and Canada.
Kataneksza and the rest of the Bison field hockey team recently lost their season opener to Vermont, 2-1, in overtime. Bucknell will look for their first victory of the season when it takes on the Drexel Dragons in Philadelphia on Tuesday, Aug. 30, at 4 p.m.
