LEWISBURG, Pa. - Former Bison men's soccer star Michael Lookingland, a 2005 graduate of Bucknell, is expected to make his Major League Soccer debut for Real Salt Lake Saturday night at 8 p.m. Eastern. The match, which is against the Kansas City Wizards at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo., will be televised on DirecTV channel 793 for those that subscribe to the MLS Direct Kick package.
Lookingland, who is expected to draw the start at defense, has been a member of Real Salt Lake's reserve division team most of the season. While with that squad, the two-time Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year scored one goal in five games through July 3.
An expansion team that is currently 3-10-4 and in fifth place in the Western Division, Real Salt Lake selected Lookingland with the first pick in the second round of the MLS Supplemental Draft in February. The 13th overall choice, he was the first Bison ever drafted by an MLS team, and just the sixth Patriot League player chosen by the premier professional soccer league in the United States.
As a senior last fall, Lookingland helped lead Bucknell to a 7-9-3 record, including a 4-2-1 Patriot League mark. He scored one goal and assisted on another and was an integral part of the Bison defense that posted four shutouts and limited opponents to just 27 goals.
