LEWISBURG, Pa. - All-America attackman Chris Cara (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford), a recent Bucknell graduate, earned Most Valuable Player honors at the 2005 USILA Division I Men's Lacrosse North-South Senior All-Star Game after scoring six goals to lead the South squad to a 14-11 victory Saturday at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex.
Cara, named a Third Team All-American after leading the nation in scoring for the second straight year (66 points on 29 goals and 37 assists), scored the game's first two goals and the South team never trailed. In his brilliant career at Bucknell, Cara twice scored six goals in a game, both coming in 2004 against Harvard and Lafayette.
The Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year in both 2004 and 2005, Cara this season broke the Bucknell and Patriot League records for career points with 249 (111 goals, 138 assists), and he tied the school's career assist mark. Cara was one of 16 finalists for the Tewaaraton Trophy as the college lacrosse player of the year, and he was presented the Christy Mathewson Award as Bucknell's top senior athlete last month.
Cara was recently selected in the third round of the Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft by the Long Island Lizards. He is the first Bucknell player since 1979 to earn All-America honors above the honorable mention level.
In 2005 Cara co-captained Bucknell to an 8-5 record, a share of the Patriot League regular-season title and a No. 14 final national ranking.
