Bison Track and Field Finishes Competition at Duke Invitational

DURHAM, N.C. - The Bucknell track and field squads finished up two days of competition at the Duke Invitational on Saturday, in Durham, N.C. The Bison women had a productive outing, with Marjorie Grap and Christa Sawko achieving ECAC standards as the women's 4x800-meter team also met the ECAC mark.
Grap had a solid day in the throws, finishing second in the discus with a toss of 150-06 (45.88). Grap's throw is the second-best in the Bison record books as well as an ECAC qualifying mark. Grap also recorded a heave of 43-00.25 (13.11m) in the shot put, good for seventh place.
Sawko had an excellent performance, finishing in the seeded 800-meters, clocking a time of 2:09.90. The time is the second-best in Bucknell history, an ECAC qualifying mark, and just a tenth of a second off the NCAA Regional standard. Offeibea Hanson-Hall placed fifth in the development section of the 800, crossing the finish line in 2:17.73.
The Bison also achieved an ECAC standard in the 4x800. Saturday's team of Jen Marsh, Erin Cranmer-Hart, Hanson-Hall and Monique Boley combined for a time of 9:12.04, enough for sixth place on the day.
In the hurdles, Kat Allen finished fourth in the development section of the 400-meter intermediate hurdles, clocking a time of 1:05.86. Chessa Forer followed in sixth in 1:06.03. Catherine Trentacoste ran a time of 1:04.24 in the event, good for 20th place in the seeded section.
Tolu Fayanjuola represented the Bison in the seeded section of the 100-meters, running a season-best time of 12.59, good for 21st place overall.
Angie Hall also notched a top ten performance, finishing sixth in the pole vault. Hall cleared a height of 11-09.75 (3.60), her best mark of the outdoor season. Beverly Rogers finished 10th in the javelin with a throw of 125-07 (38.27m).
Further North, Bison Ann Doty and Denise Manero competed at the Penn Invitational, in Philadelphia, Pa. In her first competition of the outdoor season, Doty topped the triple jump field with a leap of 37-03.25. Manero finished fifth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5-3, a season-best mark.
In men's action back at Duke, Dan Frank was strong in the throws, finishing eighth in the shot put with a personal-best mark of 47-07 (14.50m). Frake was also 16th in the discus with a heave of 136-06 (41.60m).
The next highest finisher on the men's side, was Wallace Campbell, who placed 19th in the 3000-meters, crossing the finish line in 8:36.51. Mark Caroleo wasn't far behind, finishing in 21st in 8:39.82. Mike Contino placed 20th in the long jump with a season-best leap of 21-0 (6.55m).
The Bison will host their first home meet of the outdoor season next weekend with the Bucknell Outdoor Classic at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. Events will begin in the late afternoon on Friday, April 15, and run through the day on Saturday, April 16.
