RESTON, Va. - The Bucknell women's golf team placed sixth in a 14-team field at the rain-shortened Hoya Women's Invitational on Sunday. After Saturday's first round was washed out, cold, wet and windy conditions drove scores skyward on Sunday, as only one player in the entire field broke 80.
Bucknell persevered better than most and shot 356 as a team. Teri Schlang's 86 led the team and tied for 16th in the individual standings. Kathryn Batchelor was a stroke back at 87, good for a tie for 21st. Also for the Bison, Emily Chiodo shot 91, Amy Loughney 92 and Kristen Phalen 100.
Led by Cindy Shin's 76 and four scores of 83 or better, Yale won the team title with a 322, 13 strokes better than runner-up Princeton. Georgetown (341), Penn (344) and Radford (346) also finished ahead of Bucknell. Finishing behind the Orange & Blue were Columbia (358), Fairfield (364), LIU (366), Boston College (369), Rutgers (373), Lehigh (380), Hofstra (391) and Hampton (450).
Next up for the Bison is their biggest event of the season, the Big South Championship, which begins next Sunday in Greenwood, S.C.
