LEWISBURG, Pa. - First-year Bucknell head women's soccer coach Ben Landis has announced that senior Meaghan Ferris and junior Shannon Curd will captain the squad next fall. Ferris and Curd were voted captains for the spring season by the team, and Landis appointed them captains for the upcoming season.
"I am excited about having both Meaghan and Shannon as captains," said Landis. "Both have done a great job during the transition to a new coach. We will continue to count on them for leadership as the season approaches."
Ferris was one of three Bison to earn positions on the All-Patriot League teams following the 2004 campaign with her selection to the first team. The Boxford, Mass., native, who was a second team all-league choice as a sophomore, scored two goals and assisted on another from her defensive position last fall. Both of her goals came at the St. Bonaventure Tournament in mid-September. She scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Marist, while she notched her second score of the weekend during a 4-0 shutout of St. Peter's. A starter in all 15 games she appeared in during 2004, Ferris has started 41 contests in her career. In her three years as a Bison, Ferris has totaled four goals and one assist.
"As our only first team All-Patriot League player last year, Meaghan has demonstrated her ability on the field and I expect her leadership to be as strong," commented Landis. "She will work to raise the level of the entire team because she expects a lot of both herself and her teammates."
Curd, who has played in every game since arriving at Bucknell, was one of just four Bison to start all 16 games last year. She did not score a point from her midfield position, but was third on the squad in scoring with nine points as a freshman. Her four goals as a rookie were the second-highest figure on the team.

Bucknell finished the 2004 season in sixth place in the Patriot League standings with a 2-4-1 record, but were still alive for a berth in the league's postseason tournament going into their final match. Overall, Bucknell compiled a 7-8-1 mark. Landis, a 1996 graduate of Bucknell and a former assistant coach of the Bison, replaced former head coach Chrissy Findlay in January and will try to lead the team to its first Patriot League Tournament appearance since 2001.
