I did not wake up for breakfast, and was too tired to try. So I woke up around 8:30 a.m. and had a Gatorade bar and drink for breakfast. We left at 9:15 a.m. for our 9:30 a.m. pre-game practice. We did our usual 15-minute run and stretch with our team trainer and worked on our first-step quickness once again for a few minutes before playing. To warm up we did 5 vs. 3 keep away in a small area. In the next 10 minutes we played a game where six consecutive passes counts as a goal, and kept score. After that drill once again we split up the defenders from the midfielders and forwards as they went to the other end of the field to do some shooting drills. The eight defenders split up into two teams of four and we did a clearing drill where the four that were in the penalty box had to clear the balls out of the box. The four that were not in the box were on the sidelines and were serving balls into the box. It was our job to clear the balls out of the box. We switched the four that were in the penalty box every few minutes. After the clearing drill we played a scrimmage-like game where we went to goals using up three-fourths of the field. The game was called the "seven-ball drill" and the game was set up so each goal had seven balls in the goal. The goalie would put the balls into play one at a time until a team recorded a point. To score points a team had to score a goal, which would be worth 2 points. The team could earn one point by stringing together six consecutive passes without the other team touching it. The score was kept until all seven balls were gone from that goal. At that point the two teams would switch sides and head to the opposite side of the field. After this drill we were allowed 15 minutes to do drills on our own. Again I chose to do pushups and strike long balls to our outside midfielders in order to help with a cross and shooting drill.
After that we stretched and headed home. We then got ready for lunch. After lunch we relaxed for a few hours until we had a sports psychologist meeting at 5:45 p.m. to go over some information about attitude and commitment ideas. Dinner was at 6:45 p.m. as a team at the local Italian restaurant once again. After dinner I did some homework before going to bed to prepare for our game with the Kansas City Wizards the next morning.
