LEWISBURG, Pa. - On the strength of road victories over Pennsylvania and Lafayette last week, the Bucknell men's lacrosse team has moved up to No. 15 in both the Geico/STX USILA Coaches' Poll and the Inside Lacrosse media poll. The Bison are 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the Patriot League good for a tie for first with Army, which is ranked as high as fifth in the coaches' poll this week.
Johns Hopkins, Duke, Virginia and Maryland are the top four teams in both polls. Traditional powers Princeton and North Carolina are ranked just behind Bucknell in the coaches' poll.
Bucknell's biggest win of the season was a thrilling 8-7 overtime decision over then-No. 2 Navy on March 12. The Midshipmen, who advanced all the way to the NCAA Championship Game last season, are now ranked fifth in the media poll and sixth in the USILA tally.
The Bison put their perfect Patriot League record on the line this Saturday when they host Lehigh at 1 p.m. at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
In the latest Patriot League statistical rankings, Bucknell has the overall scoring leader in Chris Cara (40 points, 5.70 per game). Cara (18), Kirk Klett (17) and Patrick Christensen (15) rank 3-4-5 in the league in goal scoring, while Cara also leads the conference in assists with 22.
Goalie Matt Baran ranks second in goals-against average (7.55), third in save percentage (.609) and third in saves per game (11.14).
