SAN DIEGO, Calif. -
Meg Blitzer scored one goal in the first game of the day against No. 17 Cal State Northridge to break Brooke Rea's Bison record of 161 career goals. However, the Bison fell to Cal State Northridge 6-3. In the second game of the day Bucknell fell to division rival No. 17 Princeton for the second time this year, 9-5.
The Bison (11-6) fell behind Northridge 4-0 early in the first quarter. Bucknell still trailed by that margin at halftime, and outscored the opponent in the second half, but it was not enough as it still dropped a 6-3 decision. Cody Keffer and Meagan Gins joined Blitzer in the scoring column with one apiece. Mandy Bynum made nine saves in goal.
In the nightcap against the Tigers, the Bison lost to their rivals for the second time in two weekends. Princeton, which ended Bucknell's nine-game winning streak last weekend, jumped out to a 6-3 halftime lead, before tacking on three goals in the third quarter. Bucknell did not score in the third, but did narrow the spread with two goals in the fourth.
Five different Bison scored goals, with Blitzer adding her second of the day. Gins also tallied her second goal of the day, while Eileen Ketterer, Kat Eckert and Mallory Sullivan each registered one goal.
Mandy Bynum made six more saves in goal, while Katie Colgan played the fourth quarter and made two saves while not allowing a goal.
Bucknell will be back in action Wednesday, March 16, at 6:30 p.m. for a rare mid-week game against Cal-Baptist.
