Bucknell Swimming and Diving Teams Take Out Lehigh in Patriot League Action

LEWISBURG, Pa. - In front of a standing room only crowd at Kinney Natatorium, the Bucknell swimming and diving teams picked up double wins over Patriot League foe Lehigh on Saturday. The Bison capped off senior day celebrations with the Bison men upending the Mountain Hawks by a score of 165-135, and the Bison women dominating the competition, 176-114.
On the women's side, the Bison took the top two places in six events and the top three spots in two races. Equally as impressive, four Bison notched two victories in individual events. Junior Lectie Altman won the 100-yard backstroke in 58.64 seconds and the 200 back in 2:05.76. Senior Jamie Flick took top honors in the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.94 and in the 200 breast in 2:24.82. Sophomore Rebecca Scheffter claimed both short freestyle swims winning the 50 in 24.82 and the 100 in 54.25. Freshman Erika Mannix represented the Bison in the diving events taking the one-meter with 256.87 points and the three-meter with a tally of 254.10. Her one-meter score is a new school record, breaking her own mark set earlier this season.
Also claiming wins for the Bison were Kristen Skroski in the 200 free (1:55.61), Katherine Munson in the 200 butterfly (2:07.86), and the team of Altman, Flick, Mary Krakowski and Alison Faux in the 200 medley relay (1:48.46). Laura Goeller (200 IM, 2:10.78) and Krakowski (100 fly, 59.20) both clocked the best time in their respective event but did not score as they were swimming in exhibition status.
Seven Bison contributed runner-up honors including Scheffter in the 200 free (1:56.54), Faux in the 100 back (1:00.63), Meghan Brown in the 1000 free (10:39.12), Emily Wichryk in both the 100 and 200 breast (1:07.88, 2:28.74), Jackie Feinthel in the 200 fly (2:13.70), Goeller in the 200 back (2:09.70), and Skroski in the 500 free (5:10.28). The team of Trish Rado, Wichryk, Lauren Reed and Lauren Butrie added a second place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:52.49).
The Bucknell men went one-two in three events and one-two-three in one event with seven Bison winning at least one individual event. Mark Kretzer was the lone Bison on the men's side to claim wins in two events taking the 100 back in 51.64 and the 200 back in 1:55.33. In the dives, Adam Freeman won the one-meter with a 313.95 score, a new school record.
Ian Rawhauser took the 200 free in 1:44.58 while Matt Crandell won the 200 fly in 1:55.02. John Peterman notched top honors in the 100 free in 47.96. Also swimming to a victory was William Schilling in the 200 breast in 2:10.40. Todd Bauer was also a top finisher swimming a time of 4:46.41 in the 500 free. The team of Rawhauser, Grant Steadman, Brad Bennett and Peterman took the 400 free relay in 3:11.36.
Second place finishers included: Todd Bauer in the 1000 free (10:01.27), Andrew Maslan in the 200 and 500 free (1:45.27, 4:49.50), Schilling in the 100 breast (58.59), Peterman in the 50 free (21.65), Steadman in the 100 free (48.09), Rawhauser in the 200 back (1:58.13), Crandell in the 100 fly (52.22), John Hoffman in the 200 IM (1:58.75), and Freeman in the three-meter dive (272.02). Nathan Humberston, Schilling, Brian Cole and Jake Thieman were the second-place finishers in the 200 medley relay (1:37.62).
This weekend is also the "Celebration of Bucknell Swimming and Diving" with events kicking off last night and wrapping up this evening. The "Celebration" was held to recognize the outstanding achievements of the swimming and diving program as well as honor the 1964 NCAA championship team. The event drew countless alumni and friends of the program back to Lewisburg for the weekend.
The Bison will take to the Kinney Natatorium next weekend for the Bison Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 12, beginning at 12 p.m. The Invitational will be a warm-up for the Patriot League Championships on Feb. 24-26, also being held at Kinney Natatorium.
