Bison Men Move Into Third Place With One Day of Competition Remaining at PL Championships

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Lectie Altman and Laura Goeller won individual gold medals on Friday as the Bison women's swimming and diving team widened their lead over the rest of the field at the Patriot League Championships at Kinney Natatorium. The Bison also captured two more relay crowns after winning both relay events on Thursday night. The Bison men stand in third place after two days of competition.
The team of Altman, Jamie Flick, Mary Krakowski and Rebecca Scheffter jump started the evening with a win in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:43.44, a school, meet, league and pool record. Bison Goeller, Carlyn Donley, Kristen Skroski and Altman also nabbed a share of the league title in the 800 free relay, tying Navy for the win with identical times of 7:40.85.
Goeller kept the momentum going in Bucknell's favor with a win in the 400 individual medley in a personal-best time of 4:28.04, the second-best time in Bison history. Nikki Woodward also made a big impact finishing second in the race with a time of 4:29.32, moving her to third on the Bison top-ten list. Jackie Feinthel rounded out the scoring in the event with a sixth place finish (4:37.36).
Altman won the 100 backstroke in a time of 56.85, after swimming 56.84 in the prelims setting new league and meet records in the individual version of the event. Altman clocked a time of 56.29 on the lead-off leg of last's night's 400 medley relay which is considered a new school record. Katharine Munson gave a fourth place performance in 58.98 while Tricia Rado finished sixth and Alison Faux turned in a 10th place finish.
Jamie Flick set a new school record in the 100 breastroke with a time of 1:04.17, good for the silver medal. Emily Wichryk recorded a ninth place finish in 1:07.01, the second-best time in school history.
The points kept coming in as Krakowski, Munson and Lauren Reed finished two-through-four in the 100 butterfly. Krakowski clocked a time of 56.43, the second-best mark in the Bison record books, followed by Munson with a 57.55 and Reed with a 57.65. Munson swam a time of 57.44 in the preliminary round, the fourth mark on the all-time Bucknell list.
Scheffter swam a time of 1:54.25 to take sixth in the 200 freestyle. Altman followed in seventh place in 1:56.18. The Bison also got points in the 200 free from Skroski in ninth (1:54.96), Leslie Rice in 12th (1:55.95), and Carlyn Donley in 13th (1:55.96). Erika Mannix added a fourth place finish with a score of 232.65 in the one-meter dive.
The Bison men were also on fire in the relays with Mark Kretzer, Brad Bennett, Grant Steadman and Jake Thieman leading off the evening with a third place finish in the 200 medley relay. Their time of 1:32.33 is the second-best all-time by a Bison team. The team of John Hoffman, Todd Bauer, John Peterman and Ian Rawhauser added a fourth place finish in the 800 free relay in 6:55.12.
Hoffman also recorded a third place performance in the 400 IM clocking a school-record time of 4:03.93. Andrew Maslan added more Bison points in the event taking eighth in 4:15.15. William Schilling swam a 57.32 in the 100 breast, good for third on the night and the third all-time Bison time.
Rawhauser notched the next highest place with a fourth-place showing in the 200 free in 1:41.61. Rawhauser's prelim time of 1:41.02 is the fourth-best all-time mark. Todd Bauer (1:43.03) and John Peterman (1:44.17) also scored in the event with 10th and 11th place finishes, respectively. Mark Kretzer placed seventh in the 100 back in 51.49. His prelim mark of 51.12 is the third-best in the Bison record books.
The Bison women are way out in the lead with 558 points ahead of Navy with 384. Navy leads the men's competition with 530.5 points. The Army men are in second with 401 just ahead of Bucknell in third with 370. Action on the final day of competition begins on Sunday with the preliminaries at 10:30 a.m. and the final events beginning at 6:30 p.m.
