Bucknell Women's Water Polo Improves to Best-Ever 6-1 with 10-2 Victory over Slippery Rock

LEWISBURG, Pa. - After defeating No. 14 Hartwick earlier in the afternoon, Bucknell posted its second victory of the day, defeating Slippery Rock 10-2 in the nightcap Saturday during the three-day Bucknell Invitational at Kinney Natatorium.
The Bison, who improved to 6-1 with the win, are off to their best-ever start to a season.
Meg Blitzer, who scored a team-high six goals earlier in the day against Hartwick, tallied four versus Slippery Rock. Elizabeth Jensen and Meagan Gins each added two goals, while Adrienne Fischer and Jennifer Swoyer each scored once. Blitzer and Jensen each added a pair of assists as the Bison registered helpers on nine of their 10 goals.
Bucknell dominated on the defensive end, registering 11 steals, led by two each from Jessica Trimis, Katie Hartigan and Jensen.
Katie Colgan made her third start of the season in goal and made nine saves.
Bucknell jumped out to an early lead in the game, outscoring Slippery Rock 4-0 in the first quarter. Then, after each team scored just once in the second quarter, the Bison won the third quarter 3-0 to head into the fourth with a commanding 8-1 lead.
Bucknell wraps up play at the Bucknell Invitational Sunday. The Bison host Wagner at 10 a.m., while in the final game of the event Bucknell battles Marist.
