LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell field hockey team announced the individuals who will lead the squad in 2006 on Monday evening. Soon to be seniors Katie Urosevich (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg), Alex Kyzmir (Lisle, N.Y./Whitney Point) and Callista Costopoulos (Shermans Dale, Pa./West Perry) will undertake the tri-captain responsibilities next season.
Urosevich saw action in all 18 games for the Bison and started in five in 2005, recording one goal and two assists for a total of four points. Her career statistics include two goals and four assists, while also being a two-time member of the NFHCA All-Academic Squad and the Patriot League Honor Roll.
Kyzmir finished the 2005 season leading the Orange and Blue with seven goals and 10 assists for 24 points. She was named to the All-Patriot League First-Team, along with picking up a second team honor in 2004. Kyzmir has recorded 14 goals and 19 assists in her career so far with Bucknell. Her 19 assists ranks her second among the Bison's top career assists leaders, while her 10 assists ties her for first in assists in a single season.
Costopoulos recorded three goals and one assist in 2005 and has a career total of eleven goals and eight assists, for 30 total points. In 2004, she received second team All-Patriot league honors and, for the past two years, has received academic recognition on the NFHCA All-Academic Squad and the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
According to head coach Heather Lewis, this trio will continue the excellent leadership she enjoyed this past season. "These three young women have tremendous potential as leaders in our program," states Lewis. "They have been recognized by their teammates and coaches as having the qualities necessary to be exemplary captains both on and off the field. I feel the 2006 Bison hockey team is in good hands with these three leading the way."
In 2005, the Bison finished second in the Patriot League with a league record of 4-1 and went 8-10 overall. In league tournament play, Bucknell fell to Holy Cross in the semifinals by a score of 3-1.
