LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell men's soccer seniors Adam Edwards (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown) and Tim Faneck (Shavertown, Pa./Dallas) have been named to the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic All-Region First Team. Edwards was honored for the second time after earning third-team honors in 2003, while Faneck showed up on the team for the first time.
This is the second time Edwards and Faneck have been honored since the completion of the regular season. Both were named to the All-Patriot League First Team, while also copping individual conference honors as well. Edwards was awarded the Goalkeeper of the Year in the PL, while Faneck picked up the Defensive Player of the Year award.
Edwards, a three-time all-league player, broke the Patriot League record for career shutouts with 27 in his four years. He also eclipsed the 30-year-old Bucknell career standard of 24. Edwards completed the 2005 campaign with nine shutouts, the second-best figure of his stellar career. The nine shutouts led the Patriot League, three more than second place.

Edwards, who started all 18 games, allowed more than one goal on just five occasions in 2005 and registered at least six saves in a game five times, including a career-high 14 against Towson. A three-time Patriot League Defensive Player of the week last year, Edwards also copped ECAC Goaltender of the Week accolades twice and Bison Athlete of the Week honors three times.
Faneck, who helped the Bison claim their third consecutive Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, following in the footsteps of two-time winner Michael Lookingland, was the premier player on a standout Bucknell defense that proved to be the team's strength this past fall. He made his first appearance on an all-league team and was key to the Bison allowing just 16 goals in 18 games and ranking third in the conference in goals allowed. The Shavertown, Pa., native started all 18 games and increased his career total to 69.
In addition to his strong defense, Faneck provided an offensive boost, especially late in the season. He entered the final week of the season with two career goals, but doubled that figure with scores against Princeton and Navy. He tallied the lone goal in a 1-0 win over the Tigers and helped the Bison open a 2-0 halftime lead by netting the first goal of the game in the season finale against the Mids. He joined classmate Eric Brunton (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) as the only two Bison to score goals in back-to-back games this year. He finished tied with Brunton for best on the team in goals (3) and points (7). Faneck's first goal of the year tied NJIT with nine seconds remaining in regulation and sent the contest to overtime.
In his four-year career, which saw him score four goals and assist on two others, Faneck appeared in 74 games, the most of any member of the four-person senior class.
Entering their final match of the season at Navy, the Bison, who finished the season with an 8-6-4 overall record and a 3-3-1 mark in Patriot League play, had a chance to qualify for the Patriot League Tournament for the third consecutive year for the first time in program history with a win over the Mids, but the game ended in a 2-2 tie. Bucknell and Navy finished the regular season tied for fifth in the league standings.
