LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell women's soccer junior co-captain Shannon Curd (Westtown, N.Y./Minisink Valley) was named Lewisburg Hotel Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday after helping lead the Bison to the 2005 Patriot League Tournament Championship.
Curd was recognized as Patriot League Tournament MVP after Bucknell captured the 2005 League title with a 3-1 victory over Army on Sunday. The victory marked the second League championship in the history of the Bucknell women's soccer program with the Bison's first coming in the 2001 season.
Curd scored the lone goal for the Orange and Blue in Friday's upset of No. 1 seed Lehigh in the Patriot League Semifinal. The tally was just the fifth goal scored against the Mountain Hawks' defense all season.
She then went on to net the deciding penalty kick that lifted Bucknell to a 6-5 shootout decision over Lehigh to advance to the championship.
In the title game, Curd grabbed the assist on the Bison's first goal of the match against the Black Knights when she took the corner kick that led to a goal by freshman Nicole Marotta (Bridgewater, N.J./Mount St. Mary Academy) in the 61st minute.
The Bison await their NCAA First Round opponent as the Division I women's soccer tournament bracket will be announced today, Nov. 7, at 5 p.m., live on ESPNews.
