LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell women's soccer sophomore forward Krista Lee Gentile (North Haledon, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) was named Brine Offensive Player of the Week by the Patriot League office on Tuesday. The league honor is Gentile's second of the season and fourth of her career as she was named Offensive Player of the Week back on Sept. 27, and as a freshman, was a two-time Patriot League Rookie of the Week.
Gentile lifted Bucknell to its first playoff berth since 2001 with her heroics in the team's final regular season contest last Friday against Navy. In a game the Bison needed to win to secure a spot in the postseason, Gentile netted her first career hat trick to carry the Blue and Orange to a 4-3 victory over the Mids. The win marked the first time Bucknell had defeated Navy since the squads met in the Patriot League championship in 2001 and the first regular season victory for the Bison in the series since Sept. 15, 2000.
Gentile's first goal of the contest gave Bucknell a 2-0 advantage as she scored on a breakaway from freshman Nicole Marotta (Bridgewater, N.J./Mount St. Mary Academy) at 18:17. She scored again at 49:57 on a cross from senior Beth Darby (Congers, N.Y./Clarkstown) before completing the hat trick with the game-winner on a penalty kick in the 88th minute.
Bucknell will travel to Bethlehem, Pa., on Friday, Nov. 4, to face No. 1 seed Lehigh in the Patriot League tournament at 5 p.m.
