HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Bucknell men's soccer team allowed just one goal for the second consecutive game, but it was not enough as Colgate defeated the Bison 1-0 Saturday night at Van Doren Field. The Bison fell to 5-4-2 overall and 1-2-0 in the Patriot League. The Raiders improved to 5-4-2 and 2-1-0 in league play.
The only goal of the game came at the 40:49 mark when Colgate's Eric Anton headed a ball in past Bucknell goalkeeper Adam Edwards (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown). It was Anton's fourth goal of the season.
Edwards manned the net for the Bison for the first half and made three saves. Sophomore Joey Kuterbach (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood), who was making just his second appearance of the year, relieved Edwards at the start of the second half and stopped two shots.
Colgate dominated the shot category in the first half, holding an 11-4 edge. Bucknell did outshoot the Raiders 5-2 in the second half, but could not put a goal on the board. The Bison, who have scored eight goals this season, have tallied more than one on just one occasion.
Goalie Doug Litvack made four saves for the Raiders, who were whistled for 19 fouls compared to 10 for Bucknell.
The Bison and Colgate have played to 1-0 scores in each of their last four meetings. Bucknell won the first two in that stretch, while the Raiders have won each of the last two matchups between the two squads.
Bucknell will step out of conference play Wednesday, Oct. 12, when it plays at Rutgers. The game is slated to kick off at 7 p.m. in Piscataway, N.J.
