Two Bucknell Women's Tennis Doubles Teams Post Victories at West Virginia Invitational

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. - The Bucknell women's tennis team advanced two doubles teams to the second round with victories Friday during the first round of the Martha Thorn Invitational, hosted by West Virginia. Overall, three of the four doubles tandems in action Friday afternoon advanced with Rheanna Gaskin (Gaithersburg, Md./Colnel Zadok Magruder) and Caitlin Baffa (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills) earning a bye in Flight C.
The most impressive showing of the afternoon came from Veronica Brown (Derwood, Md./Colnel Zadok Magruder) and Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates School), who upset Southern Miss' Nikhila Narra and Ali Blackett, 8-6, in Flight A.
JoAnna Grossman (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park) and Camille Simonetti (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) posted Bucknell's other victory, defeating Stefanie Clay and Mallory Tarca of Loyola (Md.), 8-5, in Flight C.
Chelsea Mills (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) and Ashley Globerman (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown) were the only other Bison in action Friday, and they fell to Courtney Ulrich and Chelsea Bond of Southern Miss, 8-5, in Flight B.
The two duos that won Friday, and Gaskin and Baffa, all advanced to the second round. Friday's action was moved inside due to rain in the area.
The Martha Thorn West Virginia Invitational continues Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 8-9. Play is slated to begin each day at 9 a.m.
