PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Bucknell women's soccer team held Penn to just one goal, but could not score as the team fell to the Quakers, 1-0, in non-conference action on Tuesday evening. With the loss, the Bison dropped to 6-6-0 overall while Penn improved to 6-2-2 on the year with its 11th-straight home victory.
The lone tally of the match came in the 53rd minute as Tracy Bienenfield lofted a shot from 25 yards out that found its way past Bucknell netminder Katie Dry (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) who was screened on the play.
The Bison had opportunities to score late, but could not capitalize. On Bucknell's first scoring chance, the ball was served in to junior Shannon Curd (Westtown, N.Y./Minisink Valley) who headed it just wide from eight yards out. Then, in the closing minutes, the Bison were awarded a corner kick, but sent the ball out of bounds on the play.
The Quakers outshot Bucknell, 9-6 and led in corners, 4-2. Dry made five saves in goal for the Bison, while Jessica Keeley stopped four shots for Penn. Fouls were 11-8 against the Quakers.
Bucknell returns home on Friday, Oct. 7, to face Lafayette on the Varsity Soccer Field at 7 p.m.
