LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell freshman running back Kadero Watson (Richmond, Va./Monacan) was named the Patriot League Football Rookie of the Week on Monday after an outstanding performance in the team's 33-20 loss at Lafayette on Saturday.
Watson made his second career start at slotback and logged a combined 137 rushing/receiving yards, as well as his first collegiate touchdown.
With the Bison trailing 20-3 in the third quarter, Watson's first career catch went for a 38-yard touchdown. The score ignited a furious comeback that saw them tie the score at 20 late in the contest, only to have Lafayette score the winning touchdown with 1:47 left.
Watson finished with two catches for 81 yards, and he also rushed 11 times for 56 yards, an average of 5.1 yards per carry.
For the season, he has 105 rushing yards on 19 carries for a 5.5 average. He has played in seven of the team's eight games, including the two starts.
Watson is the second Bucknell player to earn rookie of the week honors this season. Freshman linebacker Julius Hopson claimed the award on Sept. 19.
Saturday's loss dropped the Bison to 1-7 on the season, 0-3 in the Patriot League. Bucknell travels to Fordham for another league game this Saturday at 1 p.m.
